Welcome to the new site

AUG 30 2008

Welcome back. Hope all of you have had a good summer break. For those who weren't at the Beach Bums at the end of July, there were a couple of announcments. First, Frank has taken another appointment within the District, therefore he is leaving the Unit. We thanked Frank for all his hard work in building up the Unit over the last few years and making it a successful Unit it is today. Secondly Matt Jones has decided to step down as Unit Leader due to his work commitments. Sacha has kindly accepted the position and is now the new Unit Leader.

Firstly a big aplology from my end for the amount of downtime we have had lately. First the server was moved to another datacenter, then my domain host decided to go up the wall. Main thing is that we are all sorted now and should have a good uptime.
Gallery is still not working it is being looked at. Please see site page for more info.

We now have a cool little money making solution. It's easy, it works and will raise our unit some money (Nothing bad about that huh?). It's called easy search, and the company will donate £0.01 to every search made using their service. Now if your like me researching and looking up sites for college/school, on project could be 10+ searches. So why not use our search engine.
The link is here All you need to do is bookmark it and use it everytime. Not hard is it? Or if you are like me and use Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 you can put this search into your bar at the top right hand corner, to do this click the "easysearch from my Browser" link on the search page. It's easy to do guys and it's going to benefit others. Tell your friends and family to do the same. Thanks.-Chris

Basic Info

FEB 15 2008

Our unit is based In Eastbourne, which is along the south East coast of England. We were formed in September 2002, with only a few members. We currently have 47 registered members in our unit, which is increasing every month due to new members joining from friends and scout troops.

We are always welcoming new members to our unit. If you are a young person or especially a leader as we are always needing help to organize or help out with activities. To get more information about joining or helping out with the unit please contact Frank on the contact page.

What do we do?

The range of activities and things we do is great, it can be from: Night hikes to Off-shore Sailing and from Sewer trips to Going to the biggest scout camp in the world. Below are a few categories which I have tried to show you what we do.

Outdoor Activities

We do loads of outdoor activities in our program, here are some of the ones we have done and are yet to do. We have been, Kite building and flying on the downs, a night hike, off-shore sailing, archery, Trip to the Cuckmere, Climbing and abseiling and canoeing.

Camps

In the program we try to plan as many camps as possible, with at least one summer camp a year. Some of the camps are working camps, which involve working on the site and improving it. We also do camps, in which we help out with the younger sections, such as we helped out this year with the cub’s district skills day, in which we ran a string trail for the cubs. The summer camps we have each year are usually further afield than all the other camps. This year we had two summer camps planned, one to the world Jamboree. In this camp there was offered every activity possible to think of and meeting Scouts from around the world. There was also the County Jamboree held at the Laughton showground.

Badge work

The badge work system is linked to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme: - Chief Scouts Platinum Award - D of E Bronze (14 & over) Chief Scouts Diamond Award - D of E Silver (15 & over) Queens Scouts Award - D of E Gold (16 & over) The Scout badges will involve members in all the same things that are in the D of E scheme, i.e. Service, Expedition, Skills & Physical Recreation plus 4 Scout items. Members need not do the D of E Awards if they don't want to, but obviously it would be to their advantage if they do so. As they will have to complete all the D of E requirements and will only have to register with the D of E in order to gain that award as well.
